About the event

Cyber crimes claim more than 1 million victims every day! 69% of adults have experienced cybercrime in their lifetimes. From 2000 to 2015 there was a 44% increase in the amount of seniors that use the Internet. This, along with a lack of cybersecurity awareness, makes seniors the most vulnerable population for cyber crimes.

You may have been a victim yourself or you may have a relative or friend that has been a victim. Senior citizens who are identity theft victims suffer devastating effects including:

  • Loss of all their life savings
  • Feelings of shame for being victims
  • Decreased self-confidence
  • Exacerbated illnesses

This class will provide the basics to equip you and your loved ones with adequate tools to be safe from cyber and phishing attacks.

This class will be presented by Julie Orellana and John King. Julie graduated from OSUIT with a Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. She is a cyber security analyst at a major financial institution based in Tulsa, OK. John graduated from OU with a MIS degree and is a cyber security risk analyst at a major financial institution based in Tulsa, OK.
